WebIn Canada, there are standards and guidelines for walkways and roadways to promote pedestrian and motorist safety. Unfortunately, many counties do not have the same standards for walkway discontinuities, potholes, and other hazards that lead to trips, slips, and collision related injuries and fatalities.

While trip and slip injuries are rarely documented, pedestrian fatalities in collisions are. Pedestrian fatalities resulting from collisions are 3 to 5 times higher per capita in Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, and Mexico in comparison to Canada. [1]

So the next time you step out of the airport, make sure to watch your environment for less-than-ideal pedestrian conditions!
